THAT’S FRIGHTENING! - We see so many amazing things and hear multiple stories in the course of a week.

We received a call from a lady who said her towbar had come off her car after she had put her small trailer on to visit the rubbish tip.

( Towbar not fitted by us )

She said she had bought the 4 year old used car 8 months ago. Explained she would need to come to our Workshops. Thinking she may have not connected the Detachable type correctly.

BUT WHEN SHE ARRIVED WHAT A SHOCK!

The fixed bar had completely RUSTED through.

Towbar had come off her car, the fixed bar had completely RUSTED through.

Checking the underside of the car it was really good, Rust Free!

So just the Towbar at fault.

A lesson learned!

ALWAYS MAKE SURE Towbars are kept safe and well looked after.

The 60/40 trailer loading rule: The 60/40 trailer loading rules states 60% of weight should be in front half of trailer ahead of the axle.

40% in rear half behind the axle, which will ensure safe and stable towing.

By putting 60% of weight forward gives a proper downward force on trailer hitch.

This also gives your tow vehicle rear tyres the grip needed to help steer and brake safely.

TOW SAFE Leads to ROAD SAFETY!

TRAILER SERVICING AT THE DANHIRE WORKSHOPS - Regular trailer servicing gives you confidence every time you tow.

A properly maintained trailer can help you:
✅ Increase your confidence when towing
✅ Extend the working life of your trailer
✅ Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns
✅ Avoid expensive repair bills
✅ Reduce the risk of accidents

DON’T WAIT FOR SOMETHING TO GO WRONG - Trailers are often used regularly but can still develop wear, corrosion and mechanical problems that aren’t always obvious. Brakes, tyres, bearings, suspension, lights, couplings and chassis components all need checking. A professional service can identify problems before they become dangerous — or expensive.

BE AWARE - When towing a trailer, the driver has a responsibility to ensure the combination is safe and legal. However, the trailer owner also has responsibilities for keeping the trailer properly maintained and roadworthy. Failure to maintain your trailer properly could result in:

FINES • PENALTY POINTS • INVALIDATED INSURANCE • AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, ACCIDENTS!

DON’T TAKE THE RISK GET YOUR TRAILER SERVICED AT DANHIRE WORKSHOPS!
KEEP SAFE • TOW SAFE • STAY LEGAL

Leave a bigger gap! When towing, you have more weight behind you, so you need more time and distance to stop. Don’t follow the vehicle in front too closely and avoid having to brake suddenly. See safe driving more advice here: waveneytowingandleisure.co.uk/2026/09/17/between-you-and-me/

NO Furry Dice or Trees Please? - Know the Rule 98 in the Highway Code. It is illegal if objects block your view, with on-the-spot fines of £100 and 3 penalty points.

If your vision was restricted in the case of an accident that goes to a court case, fines can increase to £1,000!

If you are in a crash and hanging objects blocked your view, insurance companies may not pay out.

Sat Navs and Dash Cams are covered by the same obstruction laws.

Windscreens and windows must be kept clean and free of obstructions.

Air fresheners work just as well if placed in the centre console or fitted around the headrests.

A COOL HUNTER! Well, another week and again we welcome the NEW 76 Plate JAECOO 7 PHEV BLACK LUXURY EDITION.

Booked in for a Brink Detachable Towbar complete with 7-pin Dedicated Specific Wiring. We now see so many Chinese Electric models touring our streets and dealers opening their doors.

We at DANHIRE wondered how JAECOO came about. Research tells us “Jäger” is German for HUNTER, and “Cool” in English. Put the two together and we have a rugged, COOL HUNTER.

The JAECOO 7 is only sold to the export market. In the Chinese market, it goes as the CHERY TANSUE 06. It is reported the company says the name means “The Spirit of an Ancient Hunter.”

Picture shows the JAECOO 7 leaving the DANHIRE TRAILER WORKSHOPS complete with a used ERDE 122 Camping Trailer and a very happy customer.
